China Energy Storage Network News:
Epidemics + disasters, Europe and the United States deploy solar + energy storage projects to provide grid services with broad prospects for future development.

After the new crown virus epidemic caused Sunrun to lose money in the second quarter of this year, the company’s executives stated on its second-quarter earnings conference call that due to the continued decline in battery prices and continued power outages across the United States, the deployment of residential solar + The demand for energy storage facilities will continue to grow, and the adoption rate of battery energy storage systems will continue to increase.

Sunrun estimates that the power outage caused by the storm will cause “pain points” to customers, and more and more customers will deploy residential solar + energy storage systems.
The hurricane encountered by the United States has recently been downgraded to a tropical storm, causing power outages in the northeastern United States. According to Lynn Jurich, CEO of Sunrun, “If you only consider the numbers, there are 1.3 million residents in New Jersey who suffered power outages; last year, 2.5 million people in California lost power. If you consider our Based on the scale of the market served, we believe that users in all areas that have suffered power outages may consider deploying residential solar + energy storage facilities, so this will significantly increase the adoption rate.”

Jurich said that by the second half of 2020, Sunrun plans to launch a residential battery energy storage project that reduces costs by 15%. Due to the impact of the coronavirus epidemic on sales and installation channels, the second quarter of this year was the company’s worst quarter in distributed energy deployment in the past two years. The distributed energy installed capacity deployed by the company in the second quarter of this year was only 78.1MW, compared with 102.7MW in the same period last year. The number of customers and leases deployed by the company in the second quarter also decreased.

The reason for the decline is the same as the conclusion of the Solar Energy Industry Association’s survey report, that is, the growth of residential solar power generation facilities deployment has slowed during the public health crisis.
